Retirement planning is like planning the trip of a lifetime.
You wouldn’t hit the open road without a clear idea of where you’re starting, where you want to go, and how to get there. That’s exactly how retirement planning works.
At RetirementCalculators.com.au, we help you map out your own route to the retirement you dream about—whether that means beachside brunches, campervan adventures, or quiet afternoons with the grandkids. With the right tools, guidance, and support, your journey becomes clear and achievable.
You set the destination. We help you find the way.
Start With Your Retirement Roadmap
Before you can plan the journey, you need to know two things:
1. Where you are NOW?
Your current income, super, assets, and debt. From this you can project out where you’ll end up if you don’t change anything, i.e. your ‘do nothing’ scenario.
2. WHERE you're hoping to end up?
This is the fun part – imagining your dream retirement – where you want to live, how you want to be spending your days, what memories you want to build.
Once you know both of those, you can spot the gaps and work out what needs to change in order to move you from “Now” to “Where”.

This is your map. Now let’s explore the four paths you can take to get there:

Path 1

Define the Gap
Your first step is to see if there is any gap between how you are living your life now and how you want to live it in retirement. This step is crucial - and its not always as simple as it sounds...
Bridge the Gap
So you've identified the gaps in your overall situation that need addressing - whether its where you live or how much income you'll need in retirement or how you'll meet one-off or regular lump sum expenses. Where to from here?
Close the Gap
And when your analysis shows multiple gaps to be addressed at once, how do you prioritise? And how do you make sure you stay on track if your dreams change or your current plans get derailed.?

About me
Mary Benton
I’m a licensed Australian financial planner specialising in retirement advice. From a background of chartered accounting (ICAEW and ICAANZ) I decided to specialise in financial planning in 2005 when i couldn’t find a good financial planner to help me with my own needs. It felt like I’d finally found my niche, my passion. I love it!
In my spare time (is there such a thing?) I love to travel, to learn new skills and to stay physically and mentally active. Certainly the “but why granny?” questions from the grandkids help with that last one, lol.
